I learned a very long time ago, as a little girl, what it meant to be a "vintage girl". I didn't call it vintage girl until a few years ago after reading a dear friends devotional that she wrote. But, regardless, I knew what it meant. I look at the world today and see little girls, no older than 10, 11, or 12, saying that they love boys and have kissed boys and are using words that they cannot possibly understand. I know, I know, girls a hundred years ago were probably talking about some of the same things. BUT, it wasn't prevalent. It wasn't everyday talk like it is today.
Instead of making homemade lemonade stands and playing kickball, children are texting and facebooking and chatting online to friends. Instead of playing with army men and American Girl dolls, the "tween" generation of the day talks about falling in love and dating and all sorts of other things. I think we need to take a stand with those we love...
I think it's time that us older women show the younger women (even 10-12 year olds) what it means to be a vintage woman. A vintage woman loves God first. A vintage woman waits for love and conducts her life in a manner worthy of honor for Jesus Christ's sake. A vintage woman dresses properly (you can still dress stylishly, even though you dress modestly!). A vintage woman hides God's Word in her heart. A vintage women tells the truth, does not boast in anything other than Christ, and she lives a life of example to the unsaved around her.
My heart is grieved as I watch children (saved and unsaved) begin talking about love (which, for them, is only infatuation and not the real thing) at such a young age. We must confront. It'll probably be hard, but it IS our responsibility to point out the folly of the world's ways. If we can "save" one from becoming normal and hip, we can influence a precious life to go on and influence others.
Be vintage. Love Jesus. Tell a friend what a vintage woman really looks like.
Read and memorize Proverbs 31. Take it to heart...
Great words, Ash..so very true. Thanks for sharing..Lyd
ReplyDeletei love you.
ReplyDeleteso very tru Ash! I remember Uncle giving his basketball players a hard time when they would claim that they 'love' their girlfriend. He would kind of laugh and tell them that they love their girlfriend like they love a candybar and that at their age, they had no concept of love. :) I love you my dear! Titi
