leave and cleave

woah. what a thought! marriage is so much more than FINALLY being with your best friend for the rest of forever. it's more like an adventure. you leave everything that is familiar and cleave, or hold on tight, to your other half. two become one. new memories and traditions are to be made.

i've just been pondering this lately. so often couples get caught up in having to please everyone in just the right way. you know what i'm talking about. they have to go one way for thanksgiving and the other way for Christmas. etc. etc. etc. But, really, without being disrespectful, is it not mentioned in God's Word that we are to leave our parents and cleave to each other. That means the couple has a choice to go this way or that way at holidays or other times.

i can leave and cleave, even in my house with my family. My parents are so great at this. Rarely do we feel we have an obligation to do anything we don't want to do. it makes me appreciative of what i have in my life. The people who I grew up around that had healthy relationships with their parents, regardless of where they spent holidays or anything else.

I am thankful for who God has put in our lives. We have some great people for our role models. Thanks to James McDonald, I learned something new about leaving and cleaving. :)

ha. this was probably random. but, random makes life interesting. and beautiful.
